Blessed to be a Blessing

Rev. Bruce Brown

Psalm 67

October 18, 2020

I.    God’s Blessings on the Church to the Nations  (verses 1-2)

II.   God’s Blessings to the Nations Brings Praise  (verses 3-5)

III.   God’s Blessings and the Harvest (verses 6-7)

Our eyes, when we see the bounty that God has heaped on us, can never be focused simply upon our enjoyment of the bounty that God has given to us nor even in our thanksgiving to God for that bounty that He has given to us…but our eyes must turn to the nations. We must ask the Lord, like the Psalmist, that the nations too would share in His bounty. And so the believer longs for God to be served and praised through the salvation of people from every tribe and tongue and nation. This is an expression of the church's desire for the salvation of the nations."  ~ Ligon Duncan

Glorying in the Gifts of Our God and Savior

Rev. Shaun Hurrie

II Peter 1:1-4

October 11, 2020

I.    Glorying in a Faith of Equal Standing (verse 1)

II.   Glorying in All Things That Pertain to Life   and Godliness (verse 3)

III.   Glorying in His Precious and Very Great Promises (verse 4)

I Peter 1:1-4 (ESV)  Simeon Peter, a servant  and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

The Flourishing Church

The Twenty - Fifth Stated Meeting of Catawba Valley Presbyterian

Prosperity Presbyterian Church

September 24th, 2019 - 8:00 AM

Acts 13:1-12

Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”  Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them. When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.  He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.  But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.  But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him  and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord?  And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.  Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

Gospel Encouragement

Rev. Andrew Goyzueta

October 6, 2019

I Thessalonians 1:1-10

  I. Gospel Faith

II. Gospel Conduct

I Thessalonians 1:1-10

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.

2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. 6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. 9 For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. Rev. Richard Altork

Matthew 13:15-16

15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them. 6 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear. (NKJV)

Speaking Grace Under Pressure

October 15, 2017

Rev. Josh Grimm

Acts 21:37-40

"As the soldiers were about to take Paul into the barracks, he asked the commander, “May I say something to you?”“Do you speak Greek?” he replied. “Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand terrorists out into the wilderness some time ago?”  Paul answered, “I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.”  After receiving the commander’s permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the crowd. When they were all silent, he spoke to them in Aramaic..."

WELCOME JOSH AND ASHLEY GRIMM (RUF CAMPUS MINISTER - QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE)

"The Grimms have been living in Charlotte since 2012 while Josh attended RTS.  During this time they felt God calling them to reach the campus at Queens University.  Josh is now partnered with RUF, and his work at Queens began the fall semester of 2016.  Please pray for the Grimms as they minster to students and share the good news of Jesus Christ on this campus."

Praise and Worship the King of the World

Psalm 96

Rev. Shaun Hurrie

October 8, 2017

                    I.   Praise the King for His Unmatched Glory (vss 1-6)

II.  Give the King His Due (vss 7-9)

III. Worship the King, for He Comes (vss 10-13)

"Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't." - John Piper

Welcome Shaun and Becky Hurrie (Visiting Missionaries)

"Shaun and Becky have four children - Isaac, Anwyn, Elise, and Karis. Shaun was born and raised in South Africa, but has lived in the U.S. since 2002.

They have had the privilege of being active members of Grace Covenant PCA in Hickory since 2003. Shaun served there as a Ruling Elder and the Worship and Children’s Director and Becky served as a Nursery Director.

Since a 2004 Mission's Trip and then a call for Shaun to go to seminary, we have increasingly sensed that God desires for us to serve in Southern Africa. We officially launched with Mission to the World in March of this year and Shaun was set apart for Gospel Ministry in the PCA this past June. As part of preparing for the field long-term our family has moved to Huntersville during the support-raising process. Our desire is to be directly involved with Christian Leadership Training, Church-Plant Support, and Mentoring and Support with the team on the Cape Peninsula."
